I am a five time Tour de France winner…. is what I would like by bio to say, but that’s not quite how things have turned out. However, I love competing and travelling, so bid writing is a pretty good plan-b.

After gaining a BEng in Civil Engineering I began work in a telecoms infrastructure design and build company, producing technical and commercial responses to competitive tenders. This involved a great deal of structural analysis, construction planning and liaison with manufacturers, logistics companies and groundworks subcontractors. Once fluent in project design and estimating I followed one of my contract wins post-bid, and project managed the implementation of a mobile communications network in Indonesia. This allowed me to gain unique insight into the risks and cost dynamics of what was an embryonic industry in South East Asia. In the 20 years that followed, I worked in over 50 countries and produced bids that won work in over 150 countries.

I have worked in outsourced bid consultancy since 2008 and consequently have been exposed to many sectors, including: IT, HR, software/SAAS, facilities management, housing, skills, employment, health, justice, airports, construction, lighting, environmental health, social care and education. This has intensified my ability to identify key success factors and develop winning bids in collaboration with subject matter experts.

Mentoring offers me the opportunity to help other bid professionals define the path to their goals, advance their careers and get more out of their professional lives. I am a strong believer in making your own destiny and look forward to empowering all the mentees I work with.
