A new writing landscape

AI is transforming what it means to be a bid writer, not by replacing us but by redefining where our expertise adds most value. Today’s AI tools can automate time-consuming tasks such as initial specification summaries, document comparisons and searching through past submissions. As routine tasks become more streamlined, we have more time to shape compelling narratives, engage with win strategies, and guide subject matter experts to elevate overall bid quality. This evolution could move the profession towards a more strategic approach, pivoting time otherwise spent trawling through endless documents towards developing a deep understanding of customer hot buttons and solution differentiators that will ultimately benefit all responses.

AI-enabled writers

However, many AI tools are also being advertised—and used—as writing aids to streamline drafting, instantly produce storyboard structures and cut words in seconds. If all of us have access to the same tools, how can we stand out? In this new landscape, how can bid writers blend technology with our strategic communication skills to maximise our time and abilities without losing that human edge?

‘The Human Edge Meets AI’ webinar

Kicking off our Core Bid Writing Skills series, our Focus Group’s first webinar ‘The Human Edge Meets AI’ explores how the role of the bid writer is evolving in an AI-enabled world. Rather than debating whether AI is good or bad, our hosts Bella Stevenson and Ben Palentine reframe the conversation around how AI should be used and guidelines to stop it leading responses down the wrong path.

Grounded in real-world observations from across the bid writing profession, the session examines how AI is already changing day-to-day bid activity and what that means for quality and credibility. It also explores why simply producing more content faster does not equate to winning work.

What to expect

At its heart, this is a practical, human-centred exploration of bid writing as a professional skill. It highlights the skills, choices, and judgements that underpin compelling submissions whilst examining how AI can be used to reduce friction, free up time and sharpen focus, without eroding critical thinking or creativity.

The session ultimately leaves the audience with a clear and memorable message: success does not come from outsourcing intelligence to technology, but from using AI thoughtfully to enhance the expertise that differentiates winning bids from generic responses.

This free webinar takes place at 12:00 (noon) on Thursday 26th March.
