Webinar this week: Bid Writing Survey Results

Don't miss our webinar this Thursday 23rd April to hear the results of our Bid Writing Focus Group Survey!
In this first-of-its-kind survey, we set out to ask bid writers how they feel about the work they do, what they think about future progression, and what general perception of bid writing they have come across in their careers. Join our results session to hear the intriguing highlights from the survey and what they could mean for the future of bid writing.
About the Survey
The survey was open for seven weeks over December 2025 and January 2026, during which time 189 respondents generously shared their perspectives and experiences of bid writing. We invited a broad range of participants, including APMP UK members, bid writers, proposal professionals, bid recruitment professionals, and anyone else working in or interested in bid writing as a career. The survey was promoted through Linkedin, the APMP UK monthly newsletter, and email bulletins.
Deep dive into the results
The results give an insightful view into bid writing as a unique, specialised profession, shown through the feedback of those who do it every day. We've been able to compare and explore a fascinating range of factors, including how bid writers arrived in their current role, their backgrounds, levels of job satisfaction, whether they feel they have enough support for growth and how they see themselves in the future.
For example, the results show that the majority of respondents have a university degree and 25% work freelance!
Our goals for the survey were to gather data to inform the Bid Writing Focus Group's future plans, ask participants how we might raise the profile of bid writing, and also to share common challenges and misconceptions. The survey is a key step in the Focus Group's ambition to gain a clear understanding of skills gaps, opportunities for development and for promotion of bid writing as a valued and intentional career path.
The role of AI
A key element of the survey was around the rapidly growing role of AI in bid writing, as well as in bids and proposals in general. We have formed a useful picture of current AI adoption levels, as well as attitudes, benefits and worries. This will be a major focus for future activities as we incorporate new AI-supported methods and approaches to bid writing in daily practice and for the long-term.
What's next?
The results of the survey are a mere starting point for our enthusiastic Bid Writing Focus Group! The information we've learned will feed into many of our plans and activities for 2026 and beyond, ultimately to tackle challenges and leverage opportunities for a positive future for the profession.
